Everybody Loves Hypnotoad.

This thing is great, I built this to replace the Fuji Flair I destroyed with my massive guads and it’s turned out to be even better. It serves as my commuter/shopping/lockup bike, though I’ve taken it on some long distance moronathons of the 160 mile variety, because I’m an idiot like that.

To get this all to work I had to cold-set the rear triangle to 135mm, dent the chainstays to get these plump tires in, and do some jerry-rigging with brake housing for the rear brake. Fenders were in the original plans for this guy but since I had to do so many mods to get these tires to fit I don’t think that’s a possibility. Furthermore, these tires are so burly they could withstand a 22lr gunshot wound through and through and not flat out, so it’l be a while before I need to change those. I probably should have also gone with 2x lacing on the wheels to help out the spoke angles, but I’m not gonna get into all that unless stuff starts breaking on me.

The greatest surprise was that after I put on the bag I could still ride this thing no-hands. That’s great because that requires too much concentration on The White Rabbit, and sometimes I like to sit up to give my hands and back a rest. I had also wanted to put rear folding wald baskets on it but I’m still not sure about all that. I just need to dial in the drivetrain scenario, set up the dyno lights, get some flat pedals and fatter grips and that’s pretty much all I could ask from this bike.
